Does your dog hang his head out the window and drool to his heart’s content? And when Fido and Fluffy are scared on the road, do they fear a trip to the vet or that if your car ends up in an accident, they might be left without insurance coverage? While pets might not have insurance -- or pretty much anything else -- on their minds, perhaps you should. An injured pet can present you with major bills and heart-wrenching decisions, so perhaps you should consider pet injury coverage. Progressive, the first car insurer to offer pet injury coverage, is expanding that coverage for even more costs in more situations. Dogs and cats are now protected up to $1,000 if they’re hurt in a car accident. Not only that, but they’re now also covered in the event of a loss, like a car theft or fire. The expanded coverage is free and automatically added to Progressive’s private passenger auto policies with collision insurance, and it is currently available in 48 states and the District of Columbia. It will also be available to Progressive’s RV customers with the same coverage. “People love their cats and dogs,” said Miriam Deitcher, director of target marketing, Progressive. “We understand this and wanted to find a way to protect our customers’ pets, which is why we put our paw print on the industry by being the first to introduce Pet Injury coverage, but veterinary bills can really add up, so we've recently doubled the coverage to give them even more peace of mind when they take their pets on the road.” Next Driving Today News>>Comment on this article:More Driving Today NewsLegendary Drives
