More Things to Check

In this life there are a number of items that should be checked regularly -- batteries in flashlights; smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors; supplies in first aid kits; home fire extinguishers; and, of course, your fly. Now we suggest adding windshield wipers to that list of things to check.

According to the American Optometric Association, up to 90 percent of all driving decisions are based on visibility. Even the highest quality wiper blades take a beating during the winter months, because repeated freezing and thawing, heavy snow, sleet and slush, and wear and tear caused by the blade moving back and forth across the windshield all winter long will diminish the performance of a wiper blade over time. The natural rubber used on most blades can dry, warp or even deteriorate by springtime, especially after facing the overly vigorous use of an ice scraper.

According to research provided by wiper manufacturer Trico, vehicle owners are often hesitant to change their own wiper blades because they believe installation is difficult. Remember when you are changing your wipers that they must be chosen to fit a specific vehicle's make and model its specific wiper arm style. A professional retailer/installer might help ease the process. Next Driving Today News>>
