Internet for Your Car

The hottest new accessory option for the car is something very familiar to Al Gore: the Internet. Autonet Mobile claims to be the first wireless Internet provider for cars and it demonstrated its new Wi-Fi router at the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) convention in San Francisco. The newest router turns a car so equipped into a Wi-Fi hotspot and lets every passenger access the Internet to surf the web, check email, access social networking sites, IM, chat or download on-line games.

Purposely designed for the car, Autonet Mobile can be easily installed within 20 minutes anywhere inside the vehicle by dealership service personnel. One dealership group will begin selling the system this month at a suggested retail price of $595 for the unit and $39 per month for the service.

According to the company, its patent-pending TRU-Technology enables continuous Internet access so that passengers stay connected while driving. TRU-Technology provides intelligent, dynamic session management between high/low speed networks, producing a reliable user experience. Autonet Mobile ensures a secure, broadband-level connection to any WiFi-enabled device within close proximity of the vehicle.
