A DVD for every car

Don't want to pay $1,300 to $1,500 for a permanent in-car DVD entertainment system? We don't blame you, because we don't either. And now there's a more reasonable alternative. Targus Inc. has just unveiled its "Universal DVD In-Car Viewing Case," which allows you to use less expensive portable DVD in the car without worry or hassle.

The new portable DVD player case accommodates nearly all DVD player brands on the market, providing what the company says is "superior protection for the players during transport or in-car viewing." The case features padding for safe portability and a security strap to prevent the DVD player from moving within a moving vehicle. Weighing two pounds and measuring 11.5 inches by 3.0 inches by 9.3 inches, it easily mounts between or behind the front seats and includes all the necessary mounting straps and an easy-to-read user guide. The case accommodates up to a nine-inch portable DVD player, with extra storage space for four DVDs, a remote control and accessories. The Universal DVD In-Car Viewing Case has a suggested retail price of $39.99.

"According to IDC, 1.2 million portable DVD players are expected to ship in 2004," says Chris Hancock, product manager for Targus. "The increasing popularity of these systems makes the Targus DVD player case a cost-effective and practical method for protecting and transporting these fragile entertainment devices."

The new DVD player case is currently available at Best Buy, Circuit City and on the company Web site. Targus backs the case with a limited lifetime warranty.
