Alaska Tourism Marketing Council - Alaska is one of the great places in this country to tour through, providing you pick the right season of course. The scenery is spectaular and the highways are good. There's more travel advice to be found here than anyone could possibly use. American Automobile Association - Everybody knows about the AAA. They offer a multitude of services to member motorists, including route planning, reports on road conditions and a variety of vacation packages. Unfortunately hardly any of this is available online. Arkansas Travel - This is a beautifully organized site, very well designed and rich with features about much more than simply touring Arkansas. California Division of Tourism - All of our states have their own distinct kind of scenic beauty, but few offer the range and variety of California. Virtually all of it, excepting LA of course, is gorgeous. The climate is a big plus too. Car Rental Agencies - Most car rental agencies have their own Web sites, but this popular search utility has gathered them all into one place and its most handy. Just follow the Auto link to Car Rental Agencies and you'll be well on your way. Florida Tourism - There's hardly a spot in Florida that doesn't beckon. West or east, north or south or in between, there's always something to see, something to do. And you can find out about all of it here. Guide To Airport Rental Cars - This is a handy site for both business and vacation travelers, giving particulars on rentals around the country and in Europe. Cars are listed by city, by type (luxury, economy, exotic) and and current rates are posted. Illinois Tourism - There's more to Illinois than Chicago, a lot more. Here the state is broken down into five different regions. Select one and it expands into a fully featured rundown on where to go and what to do. MapQuest - Once you figure out how to use this trip planner it can show you how to get from where you are to anywhere in the country with remarkable prcision, and it will give you a diagram displaying every turn along the way. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration - This is a massive Web site, well organized and smoothly functioning. It contains literally hundreds of areas for you to examine, all devoted to automobile safety. To attempt to list the few we have space for here wouldn't do it justice. National Highway Traffic Safety Association - We must say we are somewhat reluctant to accept a gospel everything that NHTSA says, but there is some useful information to be found here. You might be interested in the table showing the incidence of theft from model to model. National Motorists Association - This is a fully featured, comprehensive source of information for American and Canadian drivers. It covers speed laws in all states and the provinces of Alberta and New Brunswick. National Scenic Byways - This site offers excellent tips on where the best drives in America are, how long they are and approximately how long they'll take. Covering most of the states in the Union they nevertheless have missed a few of our favorites. New York State Travel - New York is a large and enoumously variable state, ranging from Niagra Falls to the United Nations, and from Canada to Wall Street. You could spend a lifetime getting to know it. Roadside America - This has to be the ultimate road trip without having to leave the house. There's enough stuff to explore here to last you a month; all of it strange, sad, funny, wierd or perverse and completely hypnotic. It's even updated every month or so. South Carolina Travel - This site is divided into the state's individual counties, each showing events and amenities for that area. Curiously, not only can this site be read in German as well as English, but the Golf Guide is also in Japanese! South Dakota Tourism - Though this site claims up front to be devoted to tourism it is actually a jumble of stuff about the state covering Labor, Government, Education, Business, etc. But there is a Tourism section and it is very well done. Tennessee Tourism - According to official figures tourists spend over $8 billion in Tennessee each year. Most of it goes into Nashville of course, but the entire state is covered very well here. The Next Exit - For about 20 bucks you can order what these people call the most complete interstate highway guide ever printed. The WWW Cop Car Registry - By their own admission this resource may be a bit out of date, but our state police don't change their hardware all that often. Travel Nevada - With all the glitter and money associated with this state you might expect some impressive showmanship here, at least we did, but this site turns out to be pretty thin. Utah Tourism - Utah is without question one of this nation's most visually spectacular states but this site opens with some of the fuzziest photos we've ever seen on the Internet. Fortunately matters improve considerably once you get into it. Vermont Tourism - Vermont is a wonderful state to tour through in any season, but unfortunately you couldn't tell it from this site. Virginia Tourism - Everything a tourist could want can be found here; excellent maps, accomodations, special tour packages, history, coming events, it's all here. Because of its proximity to Washington, DC it's not surprising that this site can be read in five languages. WWW Speedtrap Registry - It's a big undertaking to try to create a log of all the world's speedtraps, but somebody has attempted it and you'll find it here. The US ones seem to be reasonable enough, at elast for the areas we're familiar with. Yosemite Pines Campsite - This may well be the most beautiful campsite in America. Located just a few miles outside one of the entrances to Yosemite National Park. Greatest Cars
