It covers scores of auction houses by state, plus some links to other useful sites like the Kelly Blue Book and AutoPricing. British Car Auctions - British Car Auctions calls itself Europe's largest auction group, but though its site is ambitious it doesn't work very well. When we reviewed it only the area devoted to auctions in Britain seemed to function as it should. Still worth a visit. Great American Insurance Company - Most insurance writers' eyes tend to glaze over when you tell them you want them to cover, say, your 1941 LaSalle convertible. These people know the value of collectable automobiles and will handle the deal without asking a lot of stupid questions. Insurance Auto Auctions - This company claims to be the nation's largest dealer in insurance total loss and recovered theft salvage. The have 46 locations from Hawaii to the East Coast. Keith McCormick Classic Car Auctions - Auctions are held twice each year in Palm Springs, California during February and November. There are detailed instructions for both buyers and sellers and special room rates. Manheim Online - This is a very large, nationwide US based auction house with many services, though some are available only to those in the car business. Subscriptions range from $20 to $60 per month. Some functions require Shockwave. General Car-Buying SitesAmerican Internet Classifieds - This is a good site for browsing used car listings. They have a section for "classics", though their interpretation of the term is stretched to the limit. This could also be a useful place to search for hard to find parts. AutoByTel - The worldwide online marketplace for automotive purchasing, owning and selling. AutoConnect - This is a very nice, fully featured Web site that gives you just about everything you might need - except pricing - if you're in the market for a new or used car. It has a credit evaluator and the dealer finder even comes with maps. AutoGuide - This site claims to be the largest automotive Web site directory on the Internet. With over 7,000 Web sites catalogued with descriptions, they have direct links to 400+ sites dealing with buying cars on the Internet. Automobiles - Comprehensive automotive site. Buy new and used cars. Sell your car, obtain auto financing, insurance, auto products and services. Read headline news, feature articles, and more. AutoRow - This is a big site with many useful features but it's become one of our favorites because of its humor content, featuring instructions on "How To Drive Like a Moron" and "The Highway 17 Page of Shame". AutoSite - This site has the best used car price calculator we have yet seen on the Web. It also offers a lot of other information useful to prospecctive car buyers, such as recalls, manufacturer's hotlines, rebates and incentives. Autoxcite Online - Entertaining, easy to follow information with extremely helpful tips regarding financing, leasing, new & pre-owned car pricing, the true market value of a trade in, insurance, extended warranties, after market products & services and much more. Autoxcite's personal assistance can save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars on your next car-buy! Better Business Bureau - Everyone should have convenient access to the BBB though their computers. This site offers many services and contains several formal complaint forms you can complete that could move your case along a little faster. Car Buying Tips - Consumer advocate car-buying site where you'll find free dealer cost quotes and car buying tips to help you avoid car dealer scams and save on new cars, used cars, insurance, good/bad credit car loans and extended warranties. Car Club - This is an excellent site for the prospective car buyer. It contains detailed specifications and pricing information as well as rarely seen data on consumer rebates and dealer incentives. Car-Stuff - Car-Stuff features some 300 car buying and selling sites in its over 3,000 Internet car and truck related links. Road & Track magazine recently said, "Car-Stuff is a huge site with thousands of links to all things automotive. Thankfully, they have categorized them all by topic." CarPrices - To create a virtual community of consumers helping other consumers. By being uniquely consumer-oriented, CarPrices objective is to become the premier consumer resource on the internet. CarsEverything - Contains daily auto news, reviews, new and used car buying services and more. CarTrackers - Promotes consumer-friendly automobile buying practices and unwavering commitment to buyer education. They provide the tips, strategies, and detailed behind-the-scenes information needed to understand the automobile sales world online and off. By offering multiple sources to educate its customers, CarTrackers creates a level playing field. Consumer Guide - This is the online version of the popular guidebook through the automotive minefield, and of course it's superior to the print version because of its excellent search and comparison capabilities. Kansas City Star Classified - If you're anywhere near Kansas City, Missouri this paper has a very good search capbility showing telephone numbers and, most of the time, asking prices. Make sure you compare the prices with those in Kelly's Blue Book. Lemon Law Information - If your new car has turned out to be an unrepairable turkey there is help available; how much and of what nature depends on the state you live in. This site gives some general advice on how you should proceed. Microsoft CarPoint - This is a quite elaborate site principally dedicated to helping the user make a decision about buying a new car. There's a dealer locator and some good data covering specifications, but the pricing information, especially on options, is thin. The Seattle Times - The Seattle Times offers an excellent automotive classified section for residents of the Great Northwest. You can search alphabetically or by vehicle type - vans, trucks, classics, etc. |
