Eco-friendly Limousines?

Do you like to have your cake and eat it, too? Now you can hire a limousine and still feel like you’re contributing to the environment. ElectriCar, an online provider of eco-friendly transportation alternatives, has launched what it calls the largest global online network of chauffeur-driven hybrid vehicles. With more than 200 affiliates worldwide, it claims to be a global one-stop solution for customers seeking green alternatives for transportation needs. ElectriCar has also partnered with the Web site CarbonFund to offset the carbon dioxide emitted by the hired hybrids. The company will contribute a percentage of each hybrid car service fee for planting trees, which suck carbon dioxide out of the air.

Because range is always an issue with electric and hybrid cars, ElectriCar is funding the development of a patent-pending technology for remote power transmission. The goal of the project is to enable electric cars to travel for more than the current industry limit of 40 miles on a single charge.

“There is a global migration toward environmentally friendly transportation, and the use of hybrids is the first step in that direction,” said Alex Mashinsky, founder of the company. If you’d like to drive yourself, you can also rent a hybrid from ElectriCar.
