Christmas Gifts for the Racing Fraternity

Christmas has always had its traditions. It's a time for celebration and for giving, and here at Driving Today, it is a time to take one more chance to poke a little fun at some of the movers and shakers in auto racing around the world. Since it is a time of the season to both look back and give presents, we thought it would be appropriate to offer some gift suggestions to various racers, racing executives and the racing series as we make merry and enjoy the season. You know, it won't be long until the roar of highly-tuned engines breaks the silent night. So here is Racing Rap's Christmas list:

To: Jimmie Johnson
Some competition; the poor guy won the Nextel Cup title so easily that even he had to have been bored by it all.

To: Jeff Gordon
Another Cup title before he's done; sadly, the wily champ versus protégé scenario that could have made this past season's Chase more interesting never got off the dime.

To: Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Racing victories in keeping with his fame and popularity; popularity is great, but Junior sure doesn't want to become the Anna Kournikova of NASCAR.

To: Tony George
A racing series to accompany the Indianapolis 500; he owns the greatest spectacle in racing, but very few seem to give two cents about the rest of the IndyCar season.

To: Champ Car
A taste for home cookin'; it seems the mid-America-based open-wheel series prefers escargot and sushi to fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy.

To: Bernie Ecclestone
A positive story, quote or mention; is there a man that people love to hate more than Bernie Ecclestone?

To: F1's McLaren Mercedes team
A new set of burglar tools; if you're going to steal, why not do it right?

To: Fernando Alonso
A "Home Sweet Home" plaque for the wall in his new office; maybe he'll stick around at Renault for awhile this time.

To: Brian France
Chase for the Championship that actually builds suspense and excitement; we don't think the last race of the year should just be about staying out of trouble.

As we say in one way or another every year, our gift is to be able to follow all the various types of racing and offer opinions on it. Without you, that would be a lonely task, and in the coming year, we're going to make more of an effort to follow your feedback. So thank you very much for logging on and seeing what we have to say.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you all!
